Ambrosius Stub

Ambrosius Stub ( MAY 1705 Gummerup, community Glamsbjerg on Funen, † July 15, 1758 in Ribe ) was a Danish poet.

Life

The exact date of birth is unknown, was baptized Ambrosius Stub on May 17, 1705 Verninge. As the son of a tailor Ambrosius Stub could only thanks to aristocratic patrons, where his father worked, visit a Latin school in Odense. In 1725 he enrolled at the University of Copenhagen and studied theology for almost ten years, but without an exam to acquire. 1734 gave Ambrosius Stub on the study and returned to his homeland. There he met the priest 's daughter Mette Cathrine Schousboe and married her in 1735. Mette's inherited estate lost due to faulty economy rapidly in value, the living conditions of the couple were getting poorer. Two of the four common children arrived very early in their lives. 1747 died stubs wife at the age of 31 years.

Five years later moved Ambrosius Stub to Ribe, where he maintained a close contact with the Bishop Hans Adolph Brorson. Seriously ill with gout and suffering from alcohol problems, he spent his last years as a teacher.

Works

His first poems written stub as a 23- year-old student, but during his lifetime, only six texts were printed by him ( 1752). A first edition was published posthumously in 1771 work, more collections had to be assembled from songbooks, the attribution of individual poems, arias etc. remained controversial.
