Amédée de Noé

Amedee Charles Henri de Noe, artist name Cham ( born January 26, 1819 in Paris, † September 6, 1879 ) was a French caricaturist.

Amédée de Noé was the son of the art collector Louis- Pantaleon de Noé and an Englishwoman. The drawing early gifted, lanky young man received his relevant training first by Paul Delaroche. After he became a pupil of Nicolas -Toussaint Charlet, he devoted himself particularly the grotesque drawing. Amédée de Noé was around 1840 on the basis of Rodolphe Töpffer a pioneer of photo history. His first caricatures for Le Charivari, which he for 36 years devoted the bulk of its production, appeared in 1842. Since he used to show off the smaller events of the day the audience in fleeting images and provided for almanacs, especially for the Almanac prophétique, for the Musée Philipon, but especially for the named Charivari numerous comic drawings, sketches, scenes and revues, which were later collected as most albums. Amédée de Noé also worked as a co-author of plays and as a librettist, such as for " Une martingale ", premiered at the Théâtre des Variétés (1862 ) and " Le Serpent à Plumes ", a comic opera by Léo Delibes, premiered at the Théâtre des Bouffes - Parisiens (1864 ). The bilingual artist was also an employee of English magazines. He died of tuberculosis.
