Amen Corner (band)

Amen Corner was a British pop band, which in Europe had some singles chart success in the late 1960s.

History

The band was founded in 1966 by seven school friends in her hometown of Cardiff, Wales: Andy Fairweather - Low ( vocals), Neil Jones ( guitar), Allan Jones (saxophone), Blue Weaver ( keyboards), Mike Smith (tenor sax ), Clive Taylor (bass ) and Dennis Bryon (drums). Andy Fairweather -Low formed with his nasal voice the characteristic sound of the band, which was in 1967 with the song Gin House Blues for the first time in the British charts. The breakthrough came in 1968 with a separate and differently constructed version of the song Bend Me, Shape Me, which was already known to the American band The American Breed shortly before. Her biggest hit was 1969 ( If Paradise Is) Half as Nice, originally an Italian song La Ragazza 77 & Ambra Borelli ( Il paradiso della vita ).

By 1969 the band especially in teenage circles had a lot of success, including with their own TV shows "A Night with Amen Corner " and "Stars in Their Eyes ". The band members lived together in a country manor house and maintained an exclusive lifestyle with expensive cars and racing horses.

End of 1969, the group broke up, and Andy Fairweather -Low formed the band Fairweather, in the back were also Neil Jones, Blue Weaver, Clive Taylor and Dennis Bryon here. With Natural Sinner, the band had a hit in 1970 either directly ( number 6 in the UK charts ), but they broke up in 1971 already back on. Andy Fairweather -Low then launched a successful solo career. Dennis Bryon joined in the summer of 1972, the Bee Gees on. John "Blue " Weaver went first to the Strawbs and was from 1974 also a permanent member of the Bee Gees.
