Amber (Hindi: आमेर, Amber ) is located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Formerly an independent city, it now belongs to the city of Jaipur. Amber has about 25,000 inhabitants. The creation story is to go back to the year 967 AD.

History

Amber, the former capital of Kachchwaha dynasty, was built by Man Singh (r. 1589-1614 ), an ally of Akbar in 1592 and later by Jai Singh (ruled 1621-1667 ) further expanded. Man Singh I. is also considered the builder of the royal palace.

The beginnings of the town, however, are much older and go to the back of Minas, the original inhabitants of the area. Even before the takeover by the Kachchwaha Rajput she was a flourishing town in the 10th century.

The Kachchwaha Dynasty retained the capital at Amber in until Sawai Jai Singh II (r. 1699-1743 ) in 1730 about nine kilometers south of Amber founded a new city and this gave his name. Jainagara named Jaipur today.

Attractions

About 11 kilometers from Jaipur is the Amber Fort. It was the royal palace of Kachchwaha Dynasty before Jaipur was the residence city. Particularly worth seeing is true of the Hall of Mirrors. Its interior is decorated with a variety of small mirrors. The exterior facade of the palace is decorated with white marble and red sandstone.
