Amer (river)

The Amer is the lowest part of the river the Maas in the Netherlands, North Brabant province.

It begins with Geertruidenberg at the confluence of Donge in the artificially created in 1904 outflow path of the Meuse to the Hollands Diep, called Bergse Maas. The section of the river is about 12 kilometers long and forms the southern boundary of the National Park De Biesbosch. Along the Amer places Drimmelen and location Zwaluwe. The mouth is located where the Nieuwe Merwede, one of the main estuaries of the Rhine, in the Hollands Diep goes, around 45 kilometers above its mouth into the sea at Haringvlietdam. If the locks are closed at low water of the Rhine, Meuse and Rhine finally open via the New Waterway in Rotterdam in the North Sea.
