America (Razorlight song)

July 17, 2006

America is a song by Anglo- Swedish indie rock band Razorlight. It was released on 17 July 2006 on the studio album Razorlight at Mercury Records.

Formation and content interpretation

According to statements by Andy Burrows ', former drummer of the band, opposite the London Times of the band the idea for the theme of the song came at a hotel in the U.S. state of Ohio. Here Borrell reported to have said to Burrows, why there is no song with a drum accompaniment, as in songs Billy Joel Razorlight. Was then started with the paperwork.

Although a particular literary meaning of the text is not in the foreground, but rather the special accompaniment by guitar and drum beat atypical in terms of music, the contents can be interpreted in two different ways. On the one hand the global importance of America in terms of sadness and happiness, basically the feeling of each individual human experience and on the other the representation of America as a superpower in today's world, with all its positive and negative aspects of its distinctive. In addition to seemingly trivial aspects, such as the lack of color in the media and across America, even more important conditions are mentioned. This includes in particular the continuing will of the U.S. government to manage everything to penetrate and influence, but also in some sense the mastery of each individual. In summary, it can be described as a portrait of the mindset of a modern man who is penetrated a little of the primarily negative embossed opinion towards America by the author, to summarize.

Reception

America was able to enjoy mostly positive criticism. Apart from the particularly haunting voice Borrells in the quiet atmosphere of melodic ballads was the special feeling that comes up in a while listening to the song, praised. On the negative, however, and the only complaint are the almost continuous bad and inappropriate elected rhymes at the ends of lines.
