American Association of Petroleum Geologists

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists ( AAPG ) is an international scientific society with an emphasis on petroleum geology, but generally has the objective of promoting the geosciences. They were founded in 1917 and is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. About one- third of the members are not residents of the United States. Members must have a degree in Geology and a minimum of three years work experience.

There are departments of Environmental Geosciences (DEG ) Energy Minerals (EMD ) and the Professional Affairs with its own Code of Ethics and measures to promote professional standards of members.

It publishes monthly the AAPG Explorer magazine ( newsletter) and the AAPG Bulletin.
