The American Concrete Institute (ACI ) is a non-profit organization founded in 1904 for concrete with headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The Institute has over 20,000 members in over 100 countries.

History

The forerunner of the ACI was established informally in October 1904 an engineer Congress during a Mass in St. Louis. The original idea of ​​establishing the company was to create an association for manufacturers of concrete machines, the appropriate operator trained for these machines. The idea was extended on spreading general skills and knowledge for the material as concrete and cement. The company met initially as the National Association of Cement Users from 17 to 19 January 1905 in Indianapolis, renamed itself on July 2, 1913 in American Concrete Institute has to offer. Its first president was Richard L. Humphrey, who remained there until 1914. The first publication brought the ACI 1929 out in the form of a journal. Since its inception a ordinary meeting held once a year and to the first Congress in 1956 in Montreal, the company held its first meeting outside the United States. In 1959, the ACI was the first time more than 10,000 members, in 1974 over 16,000 members and since 1990 over 20,000 members. Meanwhile, national offshoot of the company have formed in other countries as well as developed close contacts with similar societies in the world.

Tasks

The company presented to over 400 standards for concrete and its use, brings out technical publications such as the two-week ACI Structural Journal and the ACI Materials Journal, as well as the monthly Concrete International, operates its own material research, issues certifications and records particularly outstanding concrete structures, structural engineers or from technical publications.
