American Economic Journal

The American Economic Journal is a group of four economics journals that are published by the American Economic Association. The names of the respective journals consist of the prefix American Economic Journal and the scientific field to which the journal is specialized: American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, American Economic Journal: Economic Policy, American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics and American Economic Journal: Microeconomics.

History

The American Economic Association ( AEA) in 2003 created an Ad Hoc Committee for journals, chaired by Robert Halls, which recommended in April 2006, based on a three-year study that the AEA was to establish four new journals. One of the reasons given was that almost all academic societies publish more than three journals and that the diversity of authorship would be increased by adding new authors. Other reasons included the higher price segment empirical journals in economics, of which most will be published by Elsevier, and the inability of the American Economic Review with the high number of articles deal proposals.

The Recommendation concerning the publication of four new journals agreed to the Executive Committee of the AEA in 2006 as a publication starting in 2009 determined. The then president of the AEA, George Akerlof, presented on a search committee to find editors for the new journals.

Although all four journals are published in a quarterly basis, the American Economic Journal is: Applied Economics is the only of the four journals of the four issues in 2009 exist. The other three publications had only two issues in 2009, but published since 2010 with four publications per year.

American Economic Journal: Applied Economics

The American Economic Journal: Applied Economics publishes articles dealing with applied economics, especially with empirical microeconomic issues. Research for this journal include labor economics, microeconomic development economics, health economics, education, demography, empirical corporate finance, empirical international trade, empirical behavioral economics and empirical political economy. In order to stimulate academic debate, the magazine set up an online discussion forum, where posts already published can be commented on. As editor in chief currently serves Esther Duflo.

American Economic Journal: Economic Policy

The American Economic Journal: Economic Policy publishes articles that deal with economic policy and its impact on economic outcomes. Among the areas covered by the Journal's research areas include public economics, urban economics, health economics, education, welfare economics, institutional economics, economic analysis of law, market regulation and environmental economics. As the first editor in chief Alan Auerbach was elected.

American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics

The American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics published research articles on macroeconomics, including topics such as aggregate fluctuations and economic growth. Academic contributions that could be printed in the magazine, industrial organization theory, public economics, labor economics, political economy, public finance, international economics and development economics, for example, from the theory of money, come.

First editor of the journal was Olivier Blanchard. This occurred in 2009 on the grounds that its obligations would not be compatible as chief economist of the International Monetary Fund with his work as editor of the journal in the context of the current financial crisis.

The American Economic Journal: Microeconomics is a magazine that publishes articles on microeconomic theory.
