American Girl

American Girl is a product line of approximately 45 cm (18 inch) size dolls that were brought in 1986 by the company Pleasant Company on the market. The dolls come in different designs with multiple ethnicities and they are decorated in an average age of between nine and eleven. They are sold together with a suitable companion book, which tells the individual story of the girl. Originally oriented stories at different sections of the American story, but these were supplemented in 1995 by characters and stories of contemporary life. A selection of matching clothes and accessories are also available for purchase.

The manufacturer Pleasant Company was founded in 1986 by Pleasant Rowland, and its products were initially only be ordered by mail. 1998 was bought Pleasant Company Mattel. Pleasant Company was awarded the Oppenheim Toy eight port film award.
