American Jewish Congress

The American Jewish Congress was founded in December 1918 by Zionists and Jewish immigration organizations. Background of the foundation was the desire to be able to represent their own interests in the Versailles peace negotiations. Particularly influential won the AJC under Rabbi Stephen Samuel Wise.

Soon after the foundation led to thematic overlap with the Zionist Organization of America. The problem was solved by splitting the edited theme areas.

The organization is not to be confused with the American Jewish Committee and the American Jewish Council.
