American Landrace

The American Landrace ( English: American Landrace ) is a breed of pig meat from the United States of America.

Breeding history

The American Landrace comes from pigs of the Danish Landrace breed from. In the early 1930s, the Department of Agriculture of the United States reached an agreement with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the purchase of 24 pigs of the Danish Landrace breed for research purposes, with the proviso that this should not be commercially marketed as a pure-bred animals. The pigs were compared in the sequence with the American races in many characteristics.

1949 Denmark adopted the U.S. breeding restrictions. In 1950, the American Landrace Association was founded after the animals had been crossed with Norwegian Landrace and Swedish Landrace pigs.
