The organization, founded in 1881 by Clara Barton American Red Cross (English American Red Cross ) is the national Red Cross society in the United States. She is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and has its headquarters in the federal capital Washington, DC
The American Red Cross has about a million volunteers and 35,000 full-time employees. Among the volunteers were also members of the American Women's Voluntary Service Organization. There are about 700 regional organization assemblies ( chapters ). President and Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of the organization since April 2008 Gail J. McGovern ( b. 1952 ).
Tasks of the Red Cross are the civil protection at home and abroad, the training of first responders as well as the implementation and delivery of donated blood.
