American Renaissance (literature)

American Renaissance is a coined by FO Matthiessen name of literature, more specifically, the American Studies, for the period 1836-1861. During this time many of the novels were written, are now seen as a major masterpieces of American literature, including Moby - Dick by Herman Melville.

The most important representatives of the American Renaissance, in addition Melville ( and also requires Edgar Allan Poe ) the Transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller.
