American Society for Horticultural Science

The American Society for Horticultural Science ( ASHS abbreviation ) is an American organization for the promotion of horticulture.

The organization was founded in 1903 under the name Society for Horticultural Science. It has its headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Co-founder and first president was the botanist Liberty Hyde Bailey ( 1858-1954 ). The constituent meeting ( organizational meeting) was held on 9 - 10th September 1903 held in Boston. An annual conference held - It has since been regularly - with the exception of the war years 1942 and 1943. Current president is Paul Bosland.

In addition to the regularly published every two months spacing the Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science ( ISSN 0003-1062 ), the organization is also the magazines Hort Technology (bimonthly, ISSN 1063-0918 ) and HortScience (monthly, ISSN 0018-5345 ) out.

The Interamerican Society for Tropical Horticulture ( ISTH ) was founded in 1951 as a subsidiary of the Caribbean American Society for Horticultural Science.
