American Society of Cinematographers

The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC ) is an association of U.S. image formative Cinematographers (Directors of Photography ). The organization based in Hollywood has about 450 members today. Member can only be who is a professional cameraman with excellent references in the film industry.

In film productions, the membership is usually at persons involved by adding the abbreviation ASC the name in opening and closing credits indicated.

Precursor of the organization were established in 1913. At the time, Phil Rosen, Frank Kugler and Lewis W. Physioc called in New York City, then the center of the early U.S. film industry, the Cinema Camera Club to life, which later united with the Static Club of Los Angeles. The objective of the two clubs was to introduce standards for equipment and camera technology, and to find attention as a creative artist. From this connection resulted in 1919 A.S.C.

American Society of Cinematographers Awards

Since 1987, the association bestows awards for the best cinematographers in the previous calendar year. The American Society of Cinematographers Award ( ASC Award) is awarded today in the fields of film ( for Best Cinematography in a Theatrical production ) and television ( best television series / pilot and Best TV Movie / more divider ). In addition, several honorary awards (including a Lifetime Achievement Award, International Achievement Award) are awarded.

The most successful in this category was the American Conrad L. Hall (1926-2003), who was able to win the award four times, most recently in 2003 posthumously. Ten times succeeded the ASC prior to present Academy Award-winning, last happened in 2011, when the Americans Wally Pfister ( Inception ) was able to prevail.
