The NYSE Amex Equities, formerly American Stock Exchange (AMEX ) is a stock exchange in New York, USA, which is mainly specialized in the trading of options and exchange traded funds.

The company is part of the NYSE Group Inc., a subsidiary of NYSE Euro Next Inc., and is registered in Delaware. It is divided into the European NYSE Alternext, with 131 listed companies and the American NYSE Amex with 466 listed companies (as of 31 December 2008). NYSE Amex is registered under the Exchange Act.

History

The Exchange was founded in 1842 as the New York Curb Exchange on Broad Street, near Exchange Place, in New York. 1921 moved the stock exchange based at the Trinity Place.
