American Township is one of twelve townships of Allen County in the U.S. state of Ohio. According to the census in the year 2000 15.516 inhabitants were registered here.

Geography

American Township is located just west of the geographical center of the Allen County in northwest Ohio and bordered clockwise to the townships: Sugar Creek Township, Bath Township, Perry Township, Shawnee Township, Amanda Township and Marion Township.

Management

The township is administered by a Board of Trustees consisting of three elected members. Two persons are elected in the year after the presidential election and one each in the previous year. The term of office lasts four years, beginning on 1 January. There is also a Township Clerk (Secretary), who is also elected in the year before the presidential election to a four -year term. Whose term of office begins on April 1.
