American Walking Pony

The American Walking Pony is a relatively new breed that resulted from the intersection of Tennessee Walking Horse and Welsh Pony. It has two special gaits: the Pleasure Walk and the Merry Walk - both fast four-cycle transitions.

Exterior

The American Walking Pony is one of the larger pony breeds. It has a well-shaped head and a curved and muscular neck. The back is short, sloping shoulders allow for movement; the chest is broad, the hind legs muscular. The American Walking Pony is found in the colors black, bay, black brown, chestnut, dun, gray, brown and Palomino.

Interior

From the Welsh Pony versatile breed has inherited their natural jumping ability; Moreover, it is successful at western riding and as a driving horse. The American Walking Pony is by its serene character, a good children's pony.

Breeding history

The first American Walking Pony was bred by Joan Hudson Brown after 14 years of breeding experiments. In 1968 she opened the studbook of the breed, which only allows the cross-breeding of animals that are found either in the stud book of the Tennessee Walker or in that of the Welsh Pony. The first registered mare was Brown Trees flicker, the first stallion BT Golden Splendor.

The American Walking Pony is from the USA and there is also widespread in Europe it is rare.
