Americus Backers

The Dutchman Americus Backers (* 1740, † after 1778 ) is considered the inventor of an early English piano action, in which the strings are not plucked like a harpsichord, but be struck by hammer. Backers worked 1763-1778 in London and developed his mechanics probably around 1772. She was picked up by John Broadwood ( 1732-1812 ) and his apprentice Robert Stodart ( 1748-1831 ).
