Location
Americus is located on Muckallee Creek on the road from Albany to Atlanta ( Interstate 19) and Columbus (Georgia ) to Cordele ( Interstate 280).
History
Americus was founded in 1832. During the Civil War, it served three hospitals for Confederate soldiers. A majority of today's buildings in the city center dates back to the 1880s. Americus was the first city in Georgia, who drove an electric tram. For a time, it was the eighth-largest city in the state, but then fell back compared to other cities.
