Ames is a city in Story County, Iowa, United States with 58 965 inhabitants, about half of these students ( as of 2010). The city was named after Congressman Oakes Ames of Massachusetts. He had strongly influenced the construction of the transcontinental railroad, which runs through Ames in the 19th century. Ames is located about 48 kilometers north of Des Moines, the capital of the state.

In addition to the Iowa State University of Science & Technology found in the Ames National Animal Disease Center of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
