AmigaOne

The AmigaOne represented an attempt to create an official successor to the Amiga series of computers. It was produced from 2002 to 2005. Fully developed in late 2011, but so far (November 2012) available only on a supervised distributor of AmigaKit prospects list is the AmigaOne X1000.

Unlike the now called " Classic" Amigas 68k base using the AmigaOne computers, like the Apple PowerMacs, a PowerPC CPU.

About 10 years after the last 68k Amiga models that have been developed under the direction of Commodore, had the British company Eyetech - can develop new boards with their own specifications - using the Teron motherboard designs. The original design of Teron Mai Logic based on the shared IBM in 2000 design for a complete CHRP reference board.

The associated operating system AmigaOS 4, which now runs natively on the PowerPC platform and on Commodore AmigaOS 3.1 - supplemented by a new kernel - based, is developed by the Belgian company Hyperion.

Originally the AmigaOne was only available with Linux, until the completion of the first beta version of AmigaOS took almost one year.

Although there until September 2008 was no suitable hardware from 2005 on the market, the operating system has been further developed. Since October 2008 AmigaOS 4.1 is for PPC motherboards series Sam440 ( since 2012: Sam460 ) the company Acube system available.

Hardware

Among the different available options include:

  • AmigaOne SE (G3 CPU soldered, 600 MHz, ATX )
  • AmigaOne XE ( G3/G4 CPU interchangeably 750Fx/745x 800 MHz - 1.3 GHz, ATX )
  • AmigaOne XC ( G3/G4 CPU interchangeable, not yet published, micro-ATX )
  • μA1 or "Micro- AmigaOne " ( G3/G4 CPU interchangeable, 800 MHz - 1.3 GHz Mini -ITX )
  • AmigaOne 500 ( Sam460ex - 1.15 GHz)

Eyetech had this, each different basic configurations as Earlybird reference systems on offer.

AmigaOne the starter system comprises the following components:

Software

On 24 December 2006, the final version 4.0 of AmigaOS was Hyperion after five years of development ( and several beta versions) published the first AmigaOS that does not support 68k processors more, but only runs on IBM's PowerPC series. In August 2008, version 4.1 of the operating system was released. On 14 January 2010, Version 4.1 is for SAM440ep models now no beta version anymore, but has become a full version with Update 1.
