Amine oxidase

  • CAS Number: 9001-53-0

Diamine oxidase (DAO, histaminase ) is a copper-containing enzyme, histamine, putrescine can break down and other biogenic amines. The enzyme is formed by all chordates. In humans, it is in the intestines, the kidneys and produced in the placenta.

A lack of DAO will lead to the so-called histamine intolerance. Controlled individual studies and a comprehensive meta-analysis from 2003 to date, however, could find no scientific evidence supporting the postulated food intolerance by biogenic amines such as histamine.

A preparation with those obtained from pig kidney diamine oxidase ingredient extract is offered in capsule form, with the purpose of " the dietary management of histamine- induced food intolerance " ( Histamine Intolerance )
