Amir Johnson

Amir Jalla Johnson ( born May 1, 1987 in Los Angeles, California) is an American professional basketball player. In the Draft, he was 2.06 m tall, but is now grown through a growth spurt to 2.11 m with a body weight of 95 kg.

High School

Amir Johnson played for the team as students of Westchester High School and led them to a state championship. In his junior season, he put on an average of 21.0 points, 15.0 rebounds and 8.0 blocks. This meant that he was appointed in 2005 for the McDonald's High School All-American team. The Los Angeles Times voted him Player of the Year in 2005 and he received another honor when he was elected Mr. Basketball in the state of California.

Despite a commitment to the University of Louisville Amir Johnson reported to the NBA Draft 2005. This was seen by experts as a big mistake, because it would have been a sure top 10 pick with some college experience.

NBA

Ultimately Draft 2005 was selected in the second round to 56th by the Detroit Pistons Amir Johnson in the NBA. Johnson was also the last player who was drafted directly out of high school before the NBA Draft in 2006 the statutes for the change, which say that an American player must have played at least one year of college.

In his rookie season of 2005 /06 Johnson played only three games and scored 20 points in 39 minutes.
