Amitriptyline is a drug from the group of drugs called tricyclic antidepressants, which is used to relieve depression and anxiety and to treat sleep disorders.

Toxicology

In a study in 1998 with various mammals such as dogs, guinea pigs, mice, rabbits and rats amitriptyline showed a moderate to low toxicity with oral LD50 values ​​between 330 mg · kg -1 and 1800 mg · kg -1. For intravenous administration, values ​​between 25 mg · kg -1 and 87 mg · kg -1 were determined. All animals showed drowsiness and generally subdued activity.
