Castle Amlishagen - Residential House

The castle Amlishagen is a spur castle on 440 m above sea level. NN on the Brettachtal the village Amlishagen, a district of Gerabronn in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in Baden- Württemberg.

Location

The castle is situated on the southern fringe of the village of the same name, which is set back a bit on a southeast expiring, moderately sloping mouth spur of Hohenlohe plain above the Brettachtal. On the central axis of the spur a more and more eintiefende Valley runs into the valley, so that it is split in two at the end; the building is on the south-western part spur directly above the waste for Hammerschmied blade, the more volatile stream before the spur of the right and at about 375 m above sea level. History

The castle was built in the 13th century and was first mentioned in 1253. In the second half of the 14th century, in 1601 and in the 19th century it was expanded and was owned by the Lords of Amlishagen and the lords of Wollmershausen. Today, the complex is privately owned and is inhabited. It can be visited from Easter until 31 October on weekends.

After the Wollmershausener became extinct in the early 18th century, there were several changes of ownership until the castle was bought in 1821 by Blücher's personal physician Johann Karl von Horlacher. A distant descendant is still owner of the castle and palace complex.

Plant

The small weir is a typical example of a so-called shield wall castle, as it was often built in the southwest of Germany.

The layout of the castle was secured well in the 1980s and preserved. Parts of the plant have been reconstructed here. Here, a detailed archaeological survey was conducted. From the first half of the 13th century until about 1500 five phases were detected as a whole.

From the first phase of a ring wall is detected, which corresponded to the dimensions of today's main castle. Only in the second phase of construction in the late 13th century, the mighty shield wall was built on the mountain side, to protect the front of it moat the only weak point of the castle from attack and attack. The 20 meters high, 19 meters long and 2.5 meters thick shield wall was topped by a simulated in the preservation and restoration in the 1980s battlements. The parapet can be reached via a spiral staircase in the wall.

Similarly, a kennel was built around the castle in this construction. In the later phases, inter alia, the five turrets were mounted on the outer moat wall or integrated into it. Within the farmyard between town and moat is the Castle Amlishagen.
