Ammon

The Ammonites were a Semitic tribe that settled north of Moab and east of the Israelite tribes of Reuben and Gad.

Representation in the Bible

As shown in the Bible were the Ammonites, descendants of Ben- Ammi, son of Lot, which in turn was the nephew of Abraham. Procreation Ben- Ammis but shown little praiseworthy in the Bible. The Ammonites often found themselves with the Israelites in battle, they were according to the biblical narrative in the Book of Judges fought and conquered by the latter (Ri 10-11 ) of Jephthah. After the fall of the kingdom of Israel, the Ammonites spread east of the Jordan and were in the wars of the Babylonians against Judah and in the Maccabean War ( 165 BC) again on the opponent's side of the Israelites. The capital of the Ammonites was Rabbat -Ammon, the biblical Rabbah. After the conquest of the region by the Greeks under Alexander the Great, the city bore the name Philadelphia. Today is about the ancient settlement mound the Jordanian capital Amman.
