Ammonium is an ammonium salt of phosphoric acid, consisting of the ions NH 4 ( ammonium ion ), and H2PO4 ( dihydrogen phosphate ). It forms colorless crystals which dissolve readily in water.
Synthesis
Ammonium can be extracted with phosphoric acid by the neutralization of ammonia.
Use
Ammonium is well suited for the growth of crystals and therefore is used in experimental sets for crystal growth. It is also used as part of fire-extinguishing powders.
