Production and representation
Ammoniumhexachloroplatinat (IV ) can be obtained with ammonium chloride by reaction of a weak hydrochloric acid Hexachloroplatinum (IV ) acid solution.
It is also formed as an intermediate during the process of separation of platinum from anode sludge in the electrochemical copper, nickel or cobalt recovery.
Properties
Ammoniumhexachloroplatinat (IV ) is a yellow solid which is sparingly soluble in water. It decomposes when heated.
It reacts with the copper (II ) acetate and hydrogen sulfide to copper-platinum complexes find use as diamagnetic materials and semiconductors. The compound has a cubic crystal structure with a space group Fm3m.
