Ammoniumorthomolybdat is the simplest representative of various chemical compounds belonging to the ammonium salts of molybdenum. It forms white, odorless crystals which decompose under NH3 elimination, forming different polymolybdates or hydrates:
- Dimolybdate ( NH4) 2Mo2O7
- Ammoniumtetramolybdat ( NH4) 2Mo4O13 · 2 H2O
- Ammonium ( NH4) 6Mo7O24 · 4 H2O
- Ammonium octamolybdate ( NH4) 4Mo8O26 · 5 H2O
- Ammoniumdecamolybdat ( NH4) 4Mo10O32 · 2 H2O
Ammonium octamolybdate is used as flue gas oppressor together with halogenated flame retardants in plastics.
