Ammurapi

' Ammu - rapi III. (also Hammurabi III. ) was the last king of Ugarit and reigned from about 1215 to about 1194/88 BC

His connection to the previously ruling royal family is uncertain. ' Ammu - rapi is known primarily from the correspondence with other dynasties. He was a contemporary of the Hittite king Suppiluliuma II and the Viceroy Talmi - Teššup in Carchemish. The Hittite Empire suffered during his reign under famine, internal conflicts and struggles against external enemies. In several letters to the Hittite king demanded grain shipments, in at least one letter and copper. Latter prompts is ' Ammurapi apparently not always fulfilled, since Suppiuliuma mentioned in a letter that he forgive the failure to be copper deliveries if ' Ammu - rapi visit him. That Suppiluliuma II over a failure to inaugural visit by ' Ammurapis complained, seems to point to a cooling of the relationship between Hattuša and the vassals in Ugarit, or to a loss of authority Suppiluliumas .. To this end, the conclusion of a special alliance between Ugarit and Amurru is interpreted. The invitation to deliver copper, suggests that the Hittite Empire - could have lost control of Cyprus - at least temporarily.

' But Ammu - rapi seems to be still fulfilled requirements of the Hittite king to send troops to the Hittite Empire and also to give him the Ugaritic fleet. Of which indirectly reflects the correspondence of the likely final days of Ugarit with the King of Alašija ( = Cyprus or an important center in Cyprus). ' Ammu - rapi asks the King of Cyprus, the he addresses as " father," to send him information on ships of enemies that have already devastated coastal cities of Ugarit. After a new warning of the King of Cyprus arrives, that enemy ships were sighted, the predicament of Ugarit is clear: ' Ammu - rapis troops were sent into the Hittite Empire and the fleet is used by the Hittite king before the Lycian coast, so that Ugarit almost defenseless is. Shortly after this letter, which was found in the palace, overtook Ugarit a disaster that destroyed it completely. A letter from the Hittite king to the city prefect of Ugarit Šikaläer be mentioned. In whose hands was a time long Lunadušu, a man from Ugarit. Suppiuliuma calls, the city prefect on to pass Lunadušu so that the Hittites from him about them apparently little-known people of the Šikaläer who " live on ships " to learn further details, - a request that is ' Ammu - rapi not met before. Whether the Šikaläer can be associated with the later destruction of Ugarit, is unclear.
