Amorolfine is a drug used for the treatment of fungal infections ( mycoses). It is a racemic morpholine derivative, and is used as a mixture of four stereoisomers.
Areas of application
The active substance is applied topically for nail and skin fungal infections.
Effect
Amorolfine has a fungistatic and fungicidal activity against dermatophytes, dimorphic fungi and yeasts. This is based on the inhibition of ergosterol synthesis which ultimately leads to an increase in the permeability of the fungal cell membrane.
The drug is not absorbed through the intact skin and shows only minor local side effects such as itching or burning.
