Amos W. Barber

Amos W. Barber ( born April 26, 1861 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, † May 19, 1915 in Cheyenne, Wyoming ) was an American politician of the Republican Party and Governor of the State of Wyoming.

Biography

After schooling Barber graduated studies of literature and medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating from medical school, he became in 1883 physician at the Pennsylvania Hospital, before being appointed in 1885 to the surgeon at the military hospital in Fort Fetterman in Wyoming. After his appointment as military surgeon he took from 1885 to 1886 in the campaign of General George Crook against the Apaches in Arizona part. Then Barber knew his service as an army surgeon at Fort DA Russell. After leaving military service, he opened a medical practice in Cheyenne.

After his accession to the Republican Party and the inclusion of the former Wyoming Territory as the 44th state in the Union Barber was elected in September 1890 the Secretary of State of Wyoming. As such, it was after the election of Governor Francis E. Warren for U.S. Senator of 24 November 1890 and the January 2, 1893 Office of the Governor of the State. After the election and the inauguration of John E. Osborne as new Governor on January 2, 1893, he again took over the official duties of the Secretary of State, and held this post until January 1895.

During the Spanish- American War of 1898 Barber was again worked as a military doctor. After the war he resumed his work as a doctor in Cheyenne again.
