Ampere-turn

The ampere ( unit symbol: Aw, AW ) is an obsolete unit of measurement for magnetic flux in the field of electromagnetism. An electric current of 1 A causes the flux 1 Aw in a single conductor loop.

The name came about by the fact that the magnetic voltage by multiplying the current by the number of turns results in windings, as they occur in coils or electrical machines. Since the winding number is a dimensionless quantity, the corresponding SI unit is the ampere.

Expressed in SI units Joules ( J) and Weber ( Wb) applies:

  • Electromagnetic unit
  • Outdated unit (Physics)
