Amphibrach

Amphibrachys (Greek, both sides short) denotes an ancient metrical foot of three syllables, in which two light syllables a heavy syllable enclose (Scheme: unstressed - stressed - unstressed ). This metrical foot rarely used since ancient times comes in German verses before especially when these verses begin with opener. Examples: "In the name of the cradle makes peace " (Cuba), " There go the times. The giant plans ... " ( Brecht).
