Amplepuis

Amplepuis is a small French town with 5148 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Rhône department in the Rhône-Alpes region between Lyon and Roanne. It lies on the River Reins, who here changes his name and further down bears the name Rhins.

Became known Amplepuis especially by sewing machines. The inventor of the first sewing machine, Thimonnier Barthelemy (1793-1857), grew up and died in Amplepuis. He had founded as an adult in Paris, a company that eventually went to Manchester, but eventually returned to Amplepuis.
