Amqui

Amqui is a city in the Canadian province of Québec.

It was founded in 1848 and in 2006 had 6261 inhabitants. Amqui lies in the valley of the Rivière Matapédia below the westerly Lac Matapédia in the northern Appalachians. The city is part of the regional county municipality of La Matapédia.

The Route 132 leads in west-east direction through Amqui; there is also a train station.

Geography

Amqui is located on the south side of the St. Lawrence River, about 416 km northeast of the provincial capital, Quebec City and 320 kilometers west of Gaspé. The more important towns in the area include the 94 km distant Rimouski, the 74 km further west, Mont -Joli, Matane (64 km north of Amqui ) and 30 km further to the east Sayabec.
