Government

ʿ Amrān (Arabic عمران ) is a Yemeni town in the eponymous province ʿ Amrān in the northwest of the country. The city lies on the axis of the road between the capital Sana'a and the northernmost metropolis, Sa'da. These total over 200 km long, built by Chinese and paved, Mountain Road leads from Sanaa from about 50 km in the high basin of ʿ ʿ Amrān after Amrān. Incidentally, the Chinese had converted the medical center of the city to a hospital.

Population

The city is growing considerably. In 2004, ʿ Amrān showed official count to just under 77,000 inhabitants. According to calculations made in 2012 there were already more than 90,000 inhabitants. Since the second last census in 1994 (about 28,000 inhabitants ), this represents a tripling of citizenship within eighteen years.

History

The founding of the town dates back to the era of the Old South Arabian Himyarites. At the time of the Sabaean kingdom, the town blossomed into a strong fortification. In particular, in the 7th century, the city showed great valor during the clashes against the Sabeans, a plurality of regionally based tribes. Remnants of hewn stone, which belonged to the former temples and palaces still bear witness to that past glory. A large stone inscription found in the western city gate ( Bab al - Kabir ). ʿ Amrān is completely surrounded by a city wall. About this across the town has developed far beyond in recent years. The city wall dates from the year 1720.

Environment

The surrounding landscape ʿ Amrāns is characterized by terraced landscapes or through defined with stone ramparts fields to counteract erosion of fertile arable land. Every inch of fertile soil is used here.
