Amund Ringnes Island

Amund Ringnes Iceland is an island in the Canadian territory of Nunavut, and one of the Queen Elizabeth Islands. You Ellef Ringnes Island is located east of Iceland, west of Axel Heiberg Iceland and north of Cornwall Iceland. It has an area of ​​5255 km ² and reaches a height of 265 meters above the sea.

The island was discovered on April 20, 1900 by Gunnerius Ingvald Isachsen, a member of the direction of Otto Sverdrup Second Fram Expedition ( 1898-1902 ), and after Amund Ringnes ( 1840-1907 ), a co-founder of the Norwegian brewery Ringnes, the co-financed expedition, named.

1916, the island of Vilhjálmur Stefánsson was measured, which also found deposits of coal and gypsum on the island.
