Amy Madigan

Amy Madigan ( born September 11, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois ) is an American actress.

Life and achievements

Madigan studied philosophy at Marquette University, playing the piano at the Chicago Conservatory and acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She made her debut in an episode of the TV series Hart to Hart in 1981. In the film drama Love Behind Bars (1982 ) she played the lead role of convicts Terry Jean Moore, who falls in love with a prison guard and has a child by him. For this role she was nominated in 1983 for a Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actress. The supporting role alongside Gene Hackman in the romantic drama Twice in a Lifetime (1985 ) brought her 1986 Oscar nomination and second Golden Globe nomination. In the comedy The Prince of Pennsylvania ( 1988) she played alongside Fred Ward and Keanu Reeves, for this role she was nominated in 1989 for the Independent Spirit Award.

In the television drama Roe vs.. Wade ( 1989) Madigan played alongside Holly Hunter. For this role she was nominated in 1989 for an Emmy Award and won the 1990 Golden Globe Award. In 1998 she was nominated for her role in the film drama abused Love ( 1997) with William Hurt and Sean Penn once again for the Independent Spirit Award. The roles in the wartime drama A Bright Shining Lie - The Hell in Vietnam (1998), in the film drama Just a Dream (2002) and in the television series Carnivàle ( 2003-2005 ) earned her a nomination each for the Golden Satellite Award.

Madigan joined the Los Angeles Theater Center in the play Stevie Wants To Play The Blues, for which she won the Drama Logue Award.

Madigan married in 1983 Ed Harris with whom she has a daughter born in 1993.
