Ana Blandiana

Ana Blandiana, whose real name is Otilia Valeria Coman, ( born March 25, 1942 in Timişoara, Romania) is a Romanian poet. Until the Romanian Revolution of 1989, she was a dissident and human rights activist. In interviews at the Radio Free Europe and outside Romania publications publish it exposed the abuses under Nicolae Ceauşescu in socialist Romania. Ana Blandiana is a founding member of the Civil Alliance ( Alianta Civica ) and forwards the Sighet Memorial ( Memorialul de la Sighet ), an institute for the Investigation of Communist Romania's past.

Life

Otilia Coman was born as a daughter of the Orthodox priest Gheorghe Coman in Timişoara. In 1944 his parents moved to Oradea, where the father of the Orthodox Cathedral Biserica cu Luna worked as a priest. After the takeover by the Communists of the father was arrested as an " enemy of the people ". Shortly after his release he came in 1964 in a traffic accident.

In Oradea Otilia Coman attended primary school (1949-1952) and high school ( 1952-1959 ). As a child of an " enemy of the people ", she was initially denied his studies at the University of Cluj- Napoca.

In 1959 she debuted in the Cluj Magazine Tribuna ( German tribune ) with the poem Originalitate ( German originality ), where she signed with the pseudonym of Ana Blandiana (after Blandiana, the birthplace of her mother ) for the first time. In the poem she practiced between the lines in the middle of the Stalinist terror Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej era criticism of the regime and was occupied by a four-year ban on writing. From 1963 to 1967 she studied philology at the University of Cluj.

In 1964 her first book Persoana întâia plural ( German First Person Plural ), 1966 Călcâiul vulnerabil ( German Achilles heel). 1968-1974 she worked as an editor at the magazines Viata Studenţească ( German student life ) and Amfiteatru ( German Amphitheatre) worked from 1975 to 1977 and as a librarian at the Institute of Fine Arts in Bucharest. Following the publication of the poem Motanul Arpagic ( German hangover onion), an only slightly veiled criticism of dictator Ceausescu, she was placed under house arrest and was banned from publication.

In December 1989 she was a member of the Council of the National Salvation Front (Romanian Frontul Salvării national, FSN), but resigned in January 1990 as again because she felt manipulated by the neo-communists. Ana Blandiana is a founding member of the Civic Alliance and initiator of the Romanian PEN Club, chaired it owns. Together with her husband Romulus Rusan she founded the memorial for the Investigation of Communist past Sighet ( Memorialul victimelor comunismului şi al rezistenţei de la Sighet ), a research, exhibition, museum and conference center in the northern Romanian city Sighetu Marmaţiei with the target, the crimes of Communism uncover in the country to capture them scientifically and make the results available to the public.

She has given numerous lectures, symposia and lectures abroad: Germany, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria and lectured at numerous universities, including Rome, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Prague, Heidelberg, Tübingen, Hamburg and Cologne.
