Ana Pessoa Pinto

The lawyer Ana Maria Pessoa Pereira da Silva Pinto (born 5 January 1956 in Bobonaro, Portuguese Timor ) was the Attorney General of East Timor.

Career

Pessoa studied law during the Indonesian occupation of East Timor at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo ( Mozambique). She later became a judge in Mozambique.

From 2001 to March 4, 2003 Pessoa was Minister of Justice. On 6 March, she was sworn in as Minister for the Council of Ministers and on 26 July 2005, she received the State Administration department, which she held until 8 August 2007. After the parliamentary elections on 30 June 2007 her Arcangelo Leite followed in this office.

During the 2007 presidential election, there were several irregularities in the first round. Fernando de Araújo, who surprisingly retired presidential candidate of the Partido Democrático, accused three government members of FRETILIN to the irregularities have been involved. So the police have found the car of Pessoa 350 blank ballots, the incident had been covered up but. 2007 to 2009 she sat for FRETILIN as a Member of the National Parliament.

March 27, 2009 Pessoa became the new Attorney General and triggered from Longuinhos Monteiro, who became the new Chief of Police. Prior Pessoa announced its membership in the FRETILIN and in their party leadership.

Pessoa's tenure as attorney general ended on 27 March 2013. On April 15, José Costa Ximenes was sworn in as her successor.

Private life

Pessoa is divorced from the politician José Ramos- Horta. The two got in 1977 a son named Loro.
