History

By 1881 the mine was owned by Michael Hickey, from the Marcus Daly acquired it.

Their ore was transported from the Anaconda Copper Mining Company with the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway 45 km north-west to a copper smelter built there. Around it developed a settlement that was named after the mining company Anaconda (Montana). The underground mining shafts of the Anaconda Mine in 1947 closed after a total of 94,900 tons of copper had been promoted. Then the strip mine Berkeley Pit was excavated on the site in 1955.
