Dark ornamental Bock ( Anaglyptus mysticus )

The Dark decorative buck or Mysterious decorative block ( Anaglyptus mysticus ) is a beetle of the family of longhorn beetles ( Cerambycidae ).

Description

The beetles are 6 to 13 millimeters long. The elytra are reddish brown in front, in the middle of black with three oblique white bands and rear gray bluish. The body is hairy and has a bluish tone. Head and pronotum are dark haired and gray. The legs are colored black, the feet and front rails are red-brown. The legs and the first thickened clavate Hinterfußglied is only slightly longer than the following two members together. The sensor is shorter than the body.

The appearance of the species is variable, so the dominant color of the elytra and the drawing may vary. It may be black or almost reddish brown elytra are observed with white drawing.

Occurrence

They are found on sunny forest edges, especially in the south of Germany, north facing, they are becoming increasingly rare. The range extends as far north as Denmark, Norway and into middle to southern Sweden into it. In Britain, the species is only represented locally. Further distribution areas are located in North Africa and Transcaucasia.

Way of life

The beetles can be observed, among others, to flowers of herbs and shrubs of Umbelliferae, hawthorn, elderberry and dogwood.

The larvae live in dry branches of hardwoods such as oak, beech, elm, alder, hazel, black locust, elderberry, hawthorn and fruit trees. The development of the larvae to beetle takes two years, the beetle overwinters. The adults can be encountered by May to July.
