Anaklia

Anaklia (Georgian ანაკლია ) is a health resort on the eastern shore of the Black Sea in the municipality Zugdidi, Samegrelo and Upper Svaneti in the region, in western Georgia. It lies at the mouth of the river Enguri on the border with Abkhazia.

History

The first settlements on the territory of the city date back to the Middle Bronze Age. After the fall of the Kingdom of Georgia, was a fortified town, port and fishing center in the Principality of Samegrelo in the 16th century. In 1723 the city by troops of the Ottoman Empire was conquered. From this time the fortress originates.
