Anal verge

The Linea anocutanea is an anatomical boundary line at the lower end of the anal canal.

Description

The Linea anocutanea is the lower limit of the anal canal. It marks the transition of anoderm ( anal skin ) in the normal outer hairy skin ( epidermis). Above (after oral) Linea anocutanea is the nonkeratinized highly sensitive squamous anoderm. It is free of skin appendages ( adnexa ), such as hair or glandular tubes. Below the Linea anocutanea is keratinized squamous epithelium, which contains sebaceous, sweat and scent glands.

In the English literature, the Linea anocutanea is called the anal verge.
