From an analytical information systems refers to information systems that support Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and data mining permit to analyze all the data of a company and prepare it so that it can be used to make decisions. In a narrower sense, data warehouses and OLAP systems are identical to analytical information systems.

Neither is the distinction between analytical and other types of information systems in the information management strictly, nor a precise relationship between them can be stated (eg subordination ), since any practical usable information system necessarily has to offer analysis functions. In this respect, this term is used rather of drawing attention to the application intention, at worst he is one of the large amount of management buzzwords.
