Anamnesis (Christianity)

The Christian liturgy designated medical history ( from Ancient Greek ἀνάμνησις, anamnesis, "memory" ) the solemn memorial of the death and resurrection as well as the entire saving action of Christ in the celebration of the Eucharist or Holy Communion.

History

The history comes in the traditional liturgy of the Eucharist according to the words of institution and before the epiclesis and expresses the thought: this do in remembrance of me out. Reported is the formula of a history already in the oldest completely preserved Eucharist prayer of Hippolytus of Rome ( d. 235) ascribed to the Apostolic Tradition. Here the commemoration of Christ's work of salvation is connected with the offering of the Eucharistic elements by the priest. Already in Luke's Gospel ( Lk 22,19 EU) and in his first letter to the Corinthians ( 1 Cor 11.24 to 25 EU), we read the call of Jesus to break the bread as his body, to his memory ( this is my body for you.: this do in remembrance of me! )

Roman Catholic liturgy

In the Roman Catholic Church, the history of the Eucharistic Prayer belongs. There are besides, different formulations. Example of the history of prayer:

"Therefore, Father, we celebrate the memorial of the death and resurrection of your Son, and bring you as the bread of life and the cup of salvation dar. We thank you that you have called us to stand in your presence and serve you. We ask you: give us a share in Christ's body and blood, and let us be in unity by the Holy Spirit. "

Anglican liturgy

The various forms of the Book of Common Prayer in the various churches of the Anglican Communion also know the history that comes between the words of institution and the epiclesis. In many, but not all, the elements of bread and wine or the "gifts" are (by which the elements are meant ) explicitly called.

Orthodox liturgy

Also in the Orthodox follows the history of the words of institution. A special feature is that they turn to Christ. A history prayers can be divided into three phases:

Lutheran liturgy

The Reformers criticized the Prayers that will perverted by text formulations, such as the re- offer sacrifice, the blessing of God to us a work of man to God. The Liturgical Reform by Martin Luther, the items from the medical history taken out, which reduce the work of salvation for his opinion of Christ. Revised texts of history have today again been included in the Mass liturgy of the Lutheran Church, especially by the Evangelical Lutheran Kirchenagende the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church. Example of a prayer history:

"So we remember before thee, O Lord, Heavenly Father, your Son. He died on the cross and rose again the third day. He is given all power in heaven and on earth, and he represents us continually before thee. Remember, Lord, your Church here and in all places. Give her peace and harmony. Bring together, which thou hast chosen from the ends of the earth to a holy people. Finish your kingdom forever and gather us to the heavenly banquet of your Son. Through him, with him and in him be to thee, O God, almighty Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor for ever and ever. Amen. "

Ecumenism

In the Lima Liturgy of the World Council of Churches, the history is as follows:

" Priest: Therefore, O Lord, today we celebrate the memory of our redemption: the birth and life of your Son among us, his baptism by John, his last meal with the apostles, His death and descent into the realm of the dead. We proclaim Christ's resurrection and ascension into heaven, where he as our Great High Priest for all people, and we await his coming in glory. United in Christ's priesthood, we present to you this memorial: Remember the sacrifice of your Son, and grant all people the blessings of his saving work. Town: Maranatha, the Lord is coming "!
