AN/APG-65 radar family

The AN/APG-73 is an airborne radar that of the U.S. company Hughes Aircraft (now part of Raytheon ) was produced.

Description

The APG -73 is essentially an evolution of the AN/APG-65 and is also designed for use on the F/A-18C/D and E / F Hornet. Thus, the antenna and the traveling-wave tubes was taken from the APG -65. New, however, are the transmitter, exciter and computer components. The latter were taken over by the AN/APG-70 of the F- 15 Eagle and can perform per second, and this can be increased later to 80 million up to 60 million complex operations. The interface has been modified to be able to also install a low maintenance AESA antenna in the future ( from this then results in the AN/APG-79 ). In addition, the SAR mode has been improved and various modifications were made to improve the performance of the radar in the Enlightenment role. Further improvements were made to the power supply, which is now more reliable and an efficiency of 85% has (APG -65: 72%). A total of 932 systems have been delivered, the last in 2006.
